Kanonkop Wine Estate last week walked away with a top award at the 2019 International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) held in Guildhall, London.
The Stellenbosch wine estate received the ‘Most Outstanding Wine Producer’ award at the wine competition, one of the biggest shows on the world’s wine calendar - attracting approximately 5500 entries from about 50 countries.
Johann Krige, proprietor of Kanonkop Estate, said despite a wine industry with a history that stretched back to 1659 and the undisputed quality of the country’s wines, South Africa struggled to develop an image of premium quality in the international marketplace. “Therefore accolades such as this from the International Wine and Spirit Competition are particularly significant, as they show the world that as far as quality and identity go, our country’s wines can compete with – and trump – the best from France, Spain, Italy, Australia and the US.”
