Hiring good talent is one of the top challenges for the freight industry. We seem to have the same pool of candidates with very few new talented individuals! However, a strong in-house recruitment strategy, social media and technology, partnered with a reputable talent acquisition company can make the hiring process smoother and produce results faster.
- 75 percent of all job seekers decide to apply for a position within 30 seconds of seeing a job advert. With this in mind create adverts that are inspiring, easy to read, positive and that accurately embody your organisation, its employment philosophy and culture.
- Your adverts should be fresh and look and feel positive. Keep your social media links current with interesting content.
- Your brand can and will attract good talent if it provides positive and insightful information about your business. Technology provides excellent insight into how you treat your staff and there are sites - such as www.glassdoor.com and www.indeed.co.za - on which your employees are posting their opinions, views and career experience.
- Make your online applications short and to the point so that it is easy to submit information quickly and painlessly. ITS Personnel has reduced its online application for all candidates to one page which can be completed in less than five minutes.
- 72 percent of all job applicants tell us that they simply don’t receive feedback on their applications. If you are running an in-house recruitment strategy, provide your consultants with an email template to assist in communication – good or bad. It will strengthen your brand and your database will increase through word of mouth.
- 38 percent of applicants indicate that they were not informed of what to expect. Be proactive, avoid frustrating emails and call,s and inform applicants of the process and possible background screening that can be expected.
- Partner with a talent acquisition company that is progressive and is able to work closely with your in-house recruitment division and that can offer you insight and knowledge. Forbes posted an article some time back outlining corporate strategy that indicated the best international companies were outsourcing their recruitment to talent acquisition companies that worked alongside their in-house recruiters and offered insight, strategy, experience and knowledge.
