Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) on Tuesday told customers it was not the target of a United States investigation after authorities discovered an estimated 20 tons of cocaine on board an MSC-operated containership.
FTW Online previously reported on the seizure of cocaine with a street value of more than $1 billion that was found on board the MSC Gayane at the Port of Philadelphia in the US.
“MSC is assisting and cooperating in any possible way with the authorities and is not the target of the investigation,” the statement said.
“The vessel was seized on 4 July “subject to a possible forfeiture,” US District Attorney William McSwain said.
According to MSC, cargo operations have not been affected.
“All cargoes on the MSC Gayane have been transhipped to other MSC vessels and sent on to their respective destinations.”
“MSC remains grateful to the government officials in the US for their proactive work and has offered its continued support, building on a longstanding track record of good cooperation with the authorities,” the shipping line concluded.
