Power station progress halted again

The construction of Eskom’s Kusile plant has been dealt another blow after a security services provider allegedly blocked construction at the plant.
The plant was due to be operational in 2014 but has seen numerous delays. Online business publication Fin24 has quoted Eskom spokesperson, Dikatso Mothae, as saying that “several employees from the security contractor” were preventing construction.
A few weeks earlier, Eskom said in a statement that its Kusile Unit 3 had started to produce power for the first time and was ahead of schedule. “Once Unit 3 has attained full power, it will be a step closer to becoming commercially operational - which is currently targeted at November 2019,” Eskom COO, Jan Oberholzer, said at the time.
