Gauteng steel company upbeat about US exports

Steel pipe manufacturing company Hall Longmore is upbeat about export potential to the US, predicting that it will export around 30 000 metric tons to the market per month by the end of 2019 – with further growth over the next five years.
The company is one of 20 that will participate in the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston, Texas on May 6-9.
Key accounts manager of the Gauteng-based company, Mmatsheko Shai, says their capacity exceeds the requirements of the local market.
“Hall Longmore is currently exporting an average of 2 500 metric tons of steel piping into the US per month. This is a competitive market as steel pipe for the oil and gas market is manufactured and supplied from all over the world, which requires us to stay competitive,” says Shai.
Speaking ahead of the conference, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies, said the South African National Pavilion at the conference would assist South African companies in identifying opportunities within the US’s up, mid and downstream value-chain integration.
