The Zimbabwe government has given in to demands by manufacturers of basic goods to make foreign exchange available for the acquisition of raw materials outside of the country,
The decision was announced by Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Monica Mutsvangwa, who said the Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers (CZR) had issued the call following an escalation of local prices.
"To alleviate the suffering of the majority of our people, Cabinet is putting in place mechanisms to ensure foreign currency is made available to the business community for the procurement of raw materials for production process,” she said.
"In light of this initiative, Government is appealing to business to exercise restraint and stop the wanton increase of prices," added Mutsvangwa.
