Aviation investment key to Africa’s growth

President of International Civil Aviation Organisation Dr Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu

Improved air connectivity and sustainable development through sufficient investment will unlock aviation growth in Africa

That was the message from International Civil Aviation Organisation (Icao) council president Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu, speaking at an Icao workshop in Nigeria yesterday.

“It is especially urgent for Africa to address its aviation infrastructure gaps, given current levels of awareness of how air connectivity has become such a unique and indispensable catalyst for socio-economic growth on this continent,” said Aliu.

ICAO estimates growth at 4.3% in passenger traffic and 3.8% in freight traffic annually through for aviation in Africa till 2035.

The continent currently accounts for 4% of global air transport services.
