Small businesses get a boost in KZN

Minister of Public Enterprises, Pravin Gordhan.

Transnet today officially launched an Enterprise Development mega-hub for small businesses and entrepreneurs in Empangeni, north of KwaZulu-Natal.

It’s the first of its kind in Empangeni and is intended to assist small businesses, aspirant entrepreneurs and start-ups to be incubated into a real business environment.

The hub is part of Transnet’s Enterprise Development programme and provides a “walk-in centre” for small businesses, helping them to register their companies, offering tax registration and administration as well as temporary office space.

It joins four similar hubs in Johannesburg (Gauteng), Mdatsane (Eastern Cape), De Aar (Northern Cape) and in Saldanha (Western Cape).

Speaking at the launch, Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan commented: “This hub is about generating growth from below. It is about training people, giving them opportunities, giving them the kind of guidance they require so they can have the energy and enterprise that can drive our economy.”
