Sars postpones phase 2 of RCG
11 Dec 2018 - by
SA Revenue Service (Sars) has postponed the introduction of automated part-shipment management at land border posts to next year.
This is phase 2 of the RCG (Reporting of Conveyances and Goods) project involving the movement of part-shipment goods across land borders - and was due to go live last Friday (December 7).
In a notification to stakeholders, Sars executive: Customs & Excise centre of excellence (acting), Olebogeng Ramatlhodi, said it was a question of timing. “The system change will impact all cross-border road carriers, as well as the clearing agents and computer bureaus who provide electronic services to such carriers, at a time when border posts will be under pressure to cope with increased volumes of cargo,” he said.
“This postponement will also provide an opportunity for bureaus and clearing agents to fully inform their clients about the reporting arrangements surrounding part-shipments. Details of a new release date will be communicated to all stakeholders in due course.”
