Zim set to recover looted road administration funds

Government has identified the source of the missing funds looted from the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara) and will begin to recover the money.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa made this promise during his address at the annual 2018 Chiefs Conference in Kadoma onTuesday, pointing out that a recent audit report by Grant Thornton had “unearthed” looting and a lack of competence by senior managers to negotiate viable contracts.
An audit report by Grant Thornton unearthed massive looting of public funds and financial leakages that were exacerbated by incompetence by senior managers to negotiate contracts beneficial to the parastatal - which led to unclaimed toll fees and the loss of other revenue opportunities.
“Therefore many national roads were not maintained and upgraded as they should have been,” said Mnangagwa. Government was currently negotiating with another company to manage the toll gates and collect revenue, he added.
