Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Ismail Vadi.

Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Ismail Vadi, will host a stakeholder engagement with abnormal loads freight industry players at OR Tambo International Airport this Monday, 15 October.

According to Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport’s media liaison officer, Melitah Madiba, the session aims to establish a framework of engagement between the industry and government, as well as to explore innovative solutions to challenges facing the industry.

She noted that it also sought to create awareness of the importance of freight transport as an enabler and catalyst for economic growth and job creation.

“The government recognises the need to constantly improve efficient management and administration of transport services to meet the growing demand for freight services and strengthen the provincial economy,” said Madiba.

“The efficiency means strengthening infrastructure capacity to handle freight demand, ensuring safe sharing of road space and supporting innovation within the freight industry.”
