Shipping major introduces ‘overweight’ surcharge

French shipping line CMA CGM yesterday announced the implementation of surcharge for ‘overweight’ containers bound for and in transit from Asia and India to Africa trades.

Effective 22 October, the carrier will charge US$300 per 20 foot container with a gross weight above 17 tons on dry cargo from southeast Asia and the Indian east coast to western Africa – including Angola, Ghana and Nigeria – as well as Namibia in southern Africa.
