Deadline looms for export entries

Western Cape exporters have until Friday (September 14) to enter for the annual Exporter of the Year competition.

This year a cash prize of R50 000 will be handed to the winning exporter who will be announced at a gala function in Cape Town on October 17.

Janine Myburgh, President of the Cape Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said the competition was open to all Western Cape exporters. “The judges are looking for excellence in exporting,” she told FTW Online. “They look at the growth of the exporting side of the business, penetration into new markets, and the development of existing markets. They also look at the performance of the company as a job creator and even contributions to the community.”

She said size of a company was not a factor. “Both large and small exporters stand a chance of winning the main award but there are seven additional awards for companies in non-engineering fields, manufacturing, small exporters, innovation, design, exports to Africa and for the most transformed exporter.”
