Last week saw the arrival of one of the largest vessels to berth at the Ngqura Container Terminal (NCT), the MSC Savannah.
With a gross tonnage of 91 621 tons and a length of 335 metres, the vessel offloaded 550 containers and loaded 2 922, after which it sailed for the Far East on Sunday.
“We allocated maximum resources to ensure quick turnaround,” said Transnet Port Terminals general manager of the Cape Channel, Velile Dube.
The NCT is the deepest container terminal in southern Africa, with a 16 metre draught.
