A new cube satellite, developed by the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) and the French South African Institute of Technology, will gather data that will help to unlock economic growth in South Africa’s oceans economy, according to Science and Technology Minister, Mmamoloko Kubayi.
Speaking at the send-off ceremony earlier this week, he said the ZACube-2 satellite was currently on its way to India where it would be launched into space to orbit earth at about 600 kilometres. It will help South Africa to track boats along the country’s coast as well as assist in addressing the needs of the Operation Phakisa Oceans Economy programme.
