Cape Town’s trade and investment agency Wesgro has helped facilitate R2.8 billion in export deals in the 2017/18 financial year, according to CEO Tim Harris.
This follows a successful fourth quarter (January - March), in which the unit facilitated R325 million in export deals.
Harris says the unit also facilitated R190 million in outward foreign direct investment (OFDI) deals during the quarter.
During the coming financial year two priority sectors have been identified for the unit – wine and halal goods and products.
It will also undertake nine outward selling and trade missions to Cameroon, Nigeria, Senegal, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, UAE, Saudi Arabia and the UK to promote Western Cape halal exports.
