World’s top ports record 600-million-TEU milestone

Driven by global economic trade and recovery, combined throughput at the world’s 110 busiest container ports increased by 6.1% in 2017, according to a report by maritime analyst Alphaliner.

Data shows that the 110 busiest container ports in the world handled 600 million TEUs in 2017, up from the 565 million in 2016.

Of these, only 12 ports recorded lower volumes during the year, while the remaining 98 ports saw volume gains.

The top three busiest ports, according to Alphaliner, are Shanghai, Singapore and Shenzhen respectively.
