Barriers to trade will be the focus of the annual Southern African Development Community (SADC) meeting to be held in Boksburg next week.
According to a government statement, the meeting will lay the framework for the continued implementation of the Technical Barriers to Trade Annex to the SADC Protocol on Trade, which is aimed at eliminating unnecessary barriers among members and other regional or international trading blocs.
SADC member states attending the meeting will be represented by officials with expertise in the standards, accreditation, technical regulations, metrology and the legal metrology fields.
Minister of Trade and Industry, Rob Davies, added that a revision to the TBT had last been made in July 2014 and that had led to the formation of a formal framework for cooperation.
