On-demand instant courier service company 1Fetch – which positions itself as a “courier in your pocket” – has gained traction since it launched just under two years ago and has now set its sights on improving the last mile delivery service.
“With our ‘uberisation’ of this service we believe we can fill a gap where we can do it more flexibly and with a faster turnaround time,” said CEO Jason Psillos. Business was shifting to what was commonly being defined as the “1-hour” economy, he added.
“Tomorrow is too late. People want things done on demand and they want them now. Technology is the enabler for this instant gratification economy and it needs to be a part of any new business going forward,” he commented. All deliveries were done on motorcycles so that drivers can navigate the city better and overcome more traffic congestion issues than the average courier delivery vehicle.
The company services any area in Gauteng as long as the collection or delivery is within a 20-kilometre radius of Sandton – anything from urgent or sensitive documents to personal items or even a consignment of pharmaceutical goods,” Psillos said.
He told FTW Online the only limitation was that the delivery had to weigh no more than 15 kilograms and fit into the delivery box on the motorcycle
The service is currently only available in Johannesburg but there are plans to extend the company’s national footprint.
