Opposition party the Democratic Alliance (DA) has urged President Cyril Ramaphosa to act swiftly against Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown and fire her from his Cabinet.
This after the Public Protector found Brown guilty of misleading Parliament and violating the Executive Ethics Code for failing to disclose if there had been any contracts of engagement between Eskom and the Gupta-linked Trillian.
“Minister Brown has acted for far too long with utter impunity,” said DA shadow minister of Public Enterprises, Natasha Mazzone. “It was under her watch that Eskom and our other parastatals were virtually financially and ethically ruined.”
Brown had denied any agreement between the two companies when responding to a parliamentary question, but centre for investigative journalism, AmaBhungane, later established that either Trillian or a subsidiary had already invoiced Eskom for R266 million at that time.
