An intelligence-driven operation by the South African Police Service (SAPS) has led to the confiscation of drugs with a street value of R113 000 and the arrest of a 42-year-old suspect at OR Tambo International Airport (Ortia).
This according to a SAPS statement released yesterday which noted that police at the airport had acted on a complaint from a security officer about a passenger about to board a flight to Mahe Island in the Seychelles.
“The security officer was conducting routine body searches of passengers, and while searching this particular passenger the officer felt an unusual hardness on the passenger’s thighs,” said SAPS lieutenant colonel KD Mogale. “The passenger was moved to the searching area where objects on the passenger’s thighs were discovered to be white and rock-like and wrapped with cello tape.”
He noted that preliminary tests on the parcel had revealed that the substance was heroin and that investigations were ongoing.
