Western Cape shows zero tolerance for bribery

Thirty-five drivers have been arrested in the last year for attempting to bribe Western Cape Provincial Traffic Services officers.

“We show zero tolerance for corruption. Dozens of drivers who tried to bribe our officers are now facing jail time on top of the penalty for the original offence,” said Farrel Payne, director: Provincial Traffic Services.

Attempted bribery cases are in various stages of prosecution in the following areas:

  • 12 in Worcester
  • 7 in Brackenfell, Cape Town
  • 6 in Beaufort West
  • 4 in Swellendam
  • 2 in Vredenburg
  • 1 in Laingsburg
  • 1 in Caledon
  • 1 in Mossel Bay
  • 1 in Somerset West
