Transnet to hand over first locally built locomotives to Zim

Wednesday will see the official hand-over by Transnet of the first locally built mainline locomotives, wagons and passenger coaches to National Railways of Zimbabwe.
Transnet Engineering, led by its chief officer - advanced manufacturing, Thami Jiyane, will preside at the ribbon-cutting ceremony in Bulawayo which will be attended by the Zimbabwean president Emmerson Mnagangwa and Minister of Transport, Joram Gumbo.
The transaction is valued at over R2 billion and involves:
· 24 locally manufactured locomotives (Trans-Africa locomotive)
· 10 new locomotive shunters and 13 refurbished shunters
· 200 general purpose wagons
· 768 wagons to be refurbished
· 162 passenger coaches
